list of fellows* is a poster featuring photographic portraits of plants against a white background, where each plant is presented individually. This format mirrors artist profiles, as seen on websites and social media channels of arts institutions where fellows and their achievements are being introduced. At the bottom of the poster is a list of botanical names marked with an asterisk.
The plants depicted have also undergone a selection process. I chose, photographed and planted them: native species to counter the neophytes I keep removing; plants for butterflies, which have become rare; a fern planted in the shade for no other reason than its beauty (and in quiet resistance to the utilitarian pressure that dominates), and plants chosen for their scent.
Their presence can be justified. list of fellows* proposes that the plants are contemporaries, present at the same time and on equal footing. The asterisk does what it usually does in the art world: it names who got chosen, and for whom there is a coveted place.
